"New" tab

  • Insert a CD/DVD in your CDROM. Wait for a few seconds.
  • In the scrolling box TARGET, choose the CD-ROM drive (e.g. E:\ or Disk E: )
  • Click on "Scan" button, the program searchs all the files on the CD (in "preferences" tab, if you have checked ZIP,RAR,CAB, the program will search also in the checked archives)
  • During the search, the table under the "scan" button fills in as time goes by. You have to be patient if your DVD contains a big number of files.  When it is done, the program indicates "Search done", click OK. Then, you can add a comment and the place where you are to store your CD (e.g. office cupboard
  • Then click on the "record" button to save in the catalog
  • The program tells you, you have the n° X, this number can be written on the CD to find it back later.
  • Start from point 1 with a new CD, ...

"Search" tab

  • Encode in "key word" the name (or a part of the name) you are searching (e.g. Sky for Skype, or norton to get norton antivirus, norton antispam, etc...), no need to put wildcards such as * or ?
[li]Click on "search" to start the search.
  • The table under fills in if the search gives answer, otherwise, a message tells nothing have been found.

"Catalog" tab

  • The table of above shows the CD/DVD stored
  • The bottom table, shows the files from the selected CD/DVD in the above table.
  • The "Catalog" button displays under the button a little contextual menu to create, delete and change catalog.  It is possible to create various catalogs of CD/DVD (e.g. Freeware, Video, Backup,...).  Unless the main catalog, each catalog is in fact a sub-directory of C:\Program Files\DigiCat containing the databases of DigiCat. You just have to go to the main directory of DigiCat to rename a catalog. It is the same to make a back-up, copy the whole directory of DigiCat.
  • In the message bar of the window, the name of the current catalog is displayed (bottom left)

"Preferences" tab (the options)

  • Choose file DigiCat.prm to save your preferences in a ini file instead of the registry base.  Ideal if you backup the directory DigiCat, you will also keep your preferences.
  • The option : Scan and then save = when you click on the button scan and when it is done, the information are directly save in the database
  • The option : Preserve the memory when scanning = Normally, all the files found on the scanned CD/DVD are displayed in a table.  For supports containing thousands of file, it may take lots of RAM and may alter for a moment the speed of the PC. To avoid that, checked that box, the files found will be directly saved in the database and will not be displayed on screen.  This speed up a bit the scan.
